Ukishima Request Tour with Taishiro? T-shiro? Ouji...?
Good evening everyone! It's Mei\\\\٩( 'ω' )و //// I've taken over the creature introductions, so let's get started!
As expected of Ukishima. I saw many nudibranchs. This one is a *Samajima Otome Umiushi* (Chromodoris orientalis). I encounter them somewhere every year, but this time it was incredibly tiny. I couldn't see the patterns on its rhinophores with the naked eye.
There were many *Yamato Yubi Umiushi* (Glossodoris atromarginata) this time. Mii-man also posted one in their first picture. The coloring is beautiful and it's relatively large, making it good for practicing photography. Or so I thought, but they move quite a bit, so getting the rhinophores clear or the shape of the dorsal cerata visible is surprisingly difficult. When photographing nudibranchs, it's good to take a top-down shot to show the whole body, and then close-ups of just the rhinophores or secondary gills. For aeolid nudibranchs, taking photos from various angles to show the shape and color of the dorsal cerata helps with identification! This applies to fish too, so I hope people with cameras keep this in mind! Oh, by the way, the second nudibranch Mii-man posted is a *Nise Hakusen Minoumiushi* (Flabellina rubrolineata). If anyone else saw the same one, compare them!
Is this one probably a *Shirominoumiushi* (Unidentia lineata)? It doesn't have the pattern under its rhinophores, but the shape is the same~ So, for now, tentatively!
It's not just nudibranchs; there are flatworms hiding too. This is my first time seeing this type in the flatworm world. It's different from the usual ones, a beautiful flatworm! Or so I thought, but I don't know its name. I even have field guides~ There are similar ones, but they're not the same. I did an image search, but couldn't find the same species~ Flatworm research is even less advanced than nudibranchs, so there must be many new species out there!
This one was found by Zucky and doesn't have a Japanese name yet! On my favorite site 【World of Nudibranchs】 it's listed as Fujijita Umiushi sp.4, and in the incredibly thick field guide I left at the shop, 【New Edition Nudibranch Guidebook 1260 Species】 (Seibundo Shinkosha), it's Fujitauumiushi sp.7. Hmm. I wish they'd sort out the different branch numbers! lol I found it in the guide and thought it didn't have a Japanese name because it wasn't on the website, so I searched like crazy! Well, these things happen. Both the website and the guide are incredibly helpful, so I'll continue to use them. They always save me!
Also, an incredibly beautiful *Fushiera-gai* (Pleurobranchidae)! I've never seen one like it! Turns out it was a baby *Kamenoko Fushiera-gai* (Pleurobranchaea maculata). But it's beautiful.
Besides nudibranchs, there was also a *Mokuzushoi* (Oregonia gracilis). It was huge, lol. Kuro-chan, who was bored because he didn't have a camera and couldn't see the small ones, discovered it. (I showed the little ones magnified on the camera monitor.)
And lately, I'm obsessed with hermit crabs! Among them, the relatively common idol is the *Beniwamon Yadokari* (Dardanus lagopodes)! This color scheme. I can only describe it as genius. I have the impression they are often found in dark places, so look for them in caves~
This *Usuiro Umiushi* (Glossodoris rufomarginata) was photographed by Patty. It resembles a *Shiro Umiushi* (Chromodoris orientalis), but the distinguishing feature is the random blue spots on its margin. When they're small, the spots are also small and the color is faint, so you can see them if you illuminate them for the photo~
These creatures are this size. My eyes hurt. It's difficult to take a good picture of a nudibranch with a ruler in frame, so it's best to have someone else take it in situations like this, lol.
This one was also sent by Patty. I wanted to see it too! 😂 It's called an *Umifukuro* (Philinopsis cyanea), and its face from the front is so cute! It shares the same general classification as the *Kamenoko Fushiera-gai* I mentioned earlier! It's a member of the Superfamily Pleurobranchacea!
And so, everyone safely and freely searched for creatures! I haven't received photos from everyone, so if you have any unidentified ones, please send them to me! Everyone! Don't hide them, let me identify them! 😭 A final bonus. As KANA-chan, Toshiro, and I were heading towards Shibuya on Meiji-dori after meeting at the shop, Toshiro exclaimed, "Eh?! Tokyo Tower 🗼?!?" Without thinking, I replied, "Did we see it?" What we saw was
the suspiciously purple glowing docomo Tower... LOL. You're cute, Toshiro. Next time you come, let's all take a detour and go see Tokyo Tower 🗼! Everyone, please make sure to record it on video then, okay? Well, that's all for this time! Next time: 【Toshiro Dives the Sacred Ground of Izu Divers!】 Stay tuned!!
