Drift Ice Tour with a focus on food! Every dish was amazing!
Here’s the final report from the Hokkaido Drift Ice Tour, focusing on the food
The drift ice dive and sightseeing were amazing, but the food was truly delicious too
First, the hotel's dinner was a buffet with over 80 kinds of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, plus desserts! There was so much, I didn't even know what to eat
Needless to say, my stomach was always full
Next, a restaurant I personally wanted to visit
I chose this place because I couldn't forget how delicious the Genghis Khan (grilled lamb) I ate in Sapporo a few years ago was... and it was "absolutely delicious!"
This restaurant marinates the meat in sauce, which I personally preferred
We also enjoyed various gelato flavors at a shop that won first place in a world gelato competition.
The vegetable-rich soup curry, which warmed us up after the drift ice dive, was also delicious
Finally, the izakaya "OYAJI", which was carefully chosen for the party after the tour.
The owner, a local fisherman and diver, treated us to exquisite seafood dishes
Sashimi included salmon and Mizu Tako (giant octopus).
The rare-grilled amberjack was truly exquisite
The finishing sushi was like dessert
The owner of this restaurant shared valuable insights, telling us, "The thickness of the drift ice is now about a quarter of what it was 15 years ago. The types of fish we catch are changing, and if global warming continues, the drift ice might stop coming..."
This is definitely a place we'll revisit for future drift ice tours
Although I reported on it in three parts, the drift ice tour offered such valuable experiences that I still feel like I haven't written enough.
One guest, who had said before the tour, "I regretted signing up because of anxiety and worry
," ended up saying, "I'm so glad I came! Every diver should experience this at least once." It was truly a captivating four days
We definitely plan to organize this tour again next year, so please look forward to it
