The ocean under the drift ice was many times more fun, fantastical, and captivating than I had imagined!
Good evening everyone! It's Mei\\\\٩( 'ω' )و ////
The long-awaited drift ice tour, ocean edition, but there were so many photos and videos that it ended up taking this long💦 (Comes with the bonus service of my iPad crashing repeatedly during video editing ♡😡) Wow. As Tatsusan also wrote, it was the best tour ever! Personally, it was the first ocean I'd ever been to and it moved me the most. In this era where you can learn about oceans around the world through photos and videos. If you can dive now, you absolutely have to go! It was truly an ocean where I wanted people to actually dive and experience it for themselves.
To get to the dive points, we load our equipment onto sleds like this. We work hard to pull them along the path that the locals have maintained for us.
The hole for entry and exit looks like this. When the drift ice comes ashore, they cut a hole with a chainsaw, and from what I've seen on the guide's social media, it's incredibly hard work. Cutting the ice is tough, then pulling it out, transporting it, and scooping up the small pieces with a basket to dispose of them... The hole they painstakingly open freezes over every morning, so they're out there early, maintaining it before we even arrive.
Thanks to that, we get such a beautiful surface of the water... lol It's properly distorted! Like after getting a wisdom tooth pulled! Lol Actually, the surface looks quite beautiful from underwater. That's because it's a hole, so there's no ripple effect from waves. I'll put a video here. https://youtu.be/IqQxcfQc2EA?si=JhG2V3ejGlW5ZG5d I shot it with various cuts, so it's a bit long, but please watch it when you have time.
There were a lot of floating creatures, and I didn't get very good shots, but this is a juvenile fringed blenny.
The clione I absolutely wanted to see!! It seems there were a lot this year, so everyone got to see them, which was great~!
The one I photographed is a little plump, isn't it, lol
Underwater, we have ropes like this, so buddies need to be aware of each other's positions and locations. Otherwise, you'll get tangled up.
On the first day, the weather was sunny the whole time, and Tatsusan, who was on land, was sweating profusely.
He was satisfied after getting his head wet and feeling refreshed 😊
Each dive lasts about 10 minutes. The guide keeps an eye on us as we dive.
Let's have fun diving on the second day too!
I was waiting underwater the whole time, taking photos of everyone. I think this one turned out pretty well!
This is what the equipment looks like after coming up 🧊
And on the second day, it started snowing during lunch and gradually turned into a blizzard! Excitedly, I yelled, "Who wants to go outside~!!" and SHIN came with the sled! It was the best ✌️ We had so much fun taking videos like kids, laughing and screaming!🤣 When lunch ended and we returned
Just before the mesh disappears! This is how things get lost in snow countries ⛄️ Like this, we did 4 dives over 2 days, with a total dive time of less than 60 minutes, but I think it was a unique experience. This time, we were taken care of by ROBINSON for the first time, so they provided a guide, but next time it will be a self-guided tour. I'll be the guide. I've had customers accompany me and practiced a lot, and I've spent a lot of time diving, so I'd love to hold a tour again next year!
To everyone at ROBINSON who took care of us this time, and to Mr. Watanabe, our guide, thank you very much! There's still so much I want to write, but I'll stop here for now!
