What's in this tank??? In Izu, even popular creatures in aquariums are...
Hey everyone, good morning, good afternoon, good evening!✋
If you manage your time well, this year's Golden Week can be a long vacation🎵
But, since the first half includes weekdays, I wonder if some of you are working today![]()
I'm still a bit hesitant about traveling far, so I took my kids to the nearby Shinagawa Aquarium.

At first, there were many fish commonly found in Izu, and among them, my child seemed particularly fond of the "Lionfish."
They were running back and forth in front of the tank, chasing its fluttering fins.
The seals at this aquarium are actually quite talented and perform a seal show!!!

You can see active movements that are hard to imagine from their usual relaxed state, so I highly recommend it.
Unfortunately, I couldn't see it that day due to timing...
Now, here's something divers often experience when they visit aquariums![]()
First, take a look at this.

Most people walked right past this tank.
The worm-like anemones certainly catch the eye, but at first glance, aren't there any fish?
However, there's a creature familiar to Izu divers in there. Can you spot it?
The answer is

In the back, a frogfish! I think if they included pictures along with the names during display, more general visitors would recognize them.
Next up is this one.

There are no swimming fish in this tank either, but...
A very showy "Leaf Scorpionfish."

These past few years, they've been appearing quite a bit in Izu, and when they do, many divers come to see this rare creature![]()
However, creatures that don't move much aren't very popular with the general public😢
But thanks to that, I can observe them at my leisure![]()
Finally, this one.

The "Ribbon Eel," which I haven't seen in a long time and really want to photograph right now.
And there's a mysterious white moray eel cohabiting with it.
Since this one wasn't named, I asked a staff member,
and apparently, it's called a "Honeycomb Moray Eel."
A quick search revealed that it's a rare creature found south of Okinawa Main Island, but with a small population!!!
When I go to the aquarium, I lose track of time observing creatures I don't usually see and searching for unnamed ones![]()
You're sure to be moved and healed by the crystal-clear waters, rivalling even resort oceans!
