FAQs

◆Cebu Island, Philippines

  • The appeal of Cebu Island is, without a doubt, its warm climate, which is divided into a dry and rainy season throughout the year. January to June is the dry season, and July to December is the rainy season. The average annual temperature is 26-27℃. While there is a dry season (January-May) and a rainy season (June-December), there are regional differences, and Cebu Island does not have a clearly defined rainy season throughout the year. Even during the rainy season, it doesn't rain all day; often, it rains heavily like a squall for a short time and then quickly clears up. Summer clothing from Japan is fine, but it's a good idea to have a long-sleeved shirt to protect against air conditioning.
Please also refer to Yoshiko Mama's Cebu Diary.
  • Cebu experiences minimal changes in both air and water temperatures throughout the year, making it an attractive destination for divers, who can visit anytime. From January to June, it's the dry season with less rain, and the average air temperature is around 29°C. The water temperature remains consistently warm, ranging from 27°C to 30°C all year round. The best season is from March to October.
  • Every morning, after you gather, we take your lunch orders. Bento boxes are 200 pesos (approximately 500 yen), and payment is collected on your last day of diving. Of course, you are welcome to bring your own lunch.
  • Payment should be made in full after the diving is complete. We only accept cash (US dollars, Philippine pesos, Japanese yen). Please note that credit cards and traveler's checks are not accepted. We can hold your valuables at the shop, but please only bring the minimum amount of cash you need.

◆All about diving

  • All courses are open to healthy individuals aged 10 and over.
However, please note that individuals with a history of respiratory conditions such as asthma, or circulatory conditions affecting the heart or blood, may not be eligible to participate. Please be sure to check the medical history checklist.
  • There are several illnesses that pose a risk during diving, including angina, myocardial infarction, arrhythmia, high blood pressure, asthma, and pneumothorax. In any case, if you have a pre-existing condition, please consult a specialist doctor before considering participation. We can also introduce you to specialist doctors familiar with diving, so please inquire.
  • It is not impossible to dive. However, in most cases, you cannot dive while taking medication, so please participate within your comfort zone. As for menstruation, it is possible to dive while taking medication to adjust your cycle, so please consider using it. Even on the day of your dive, if you feel well enough, you can still dive. It is generally considered acceptable to participate while taking stomach medicine, herbal medicine, or vitamins.
  • You may wear contact lenses for all courses. However, since there is no guarantee that they will not come off, we recommend using disposable lenses. In the license course, there is a skill practice where you remove and replace your mask underwater. If you have any concerns, we may recommend removing your contact lenses and using a prescription mask.
  • You don't need the athletic prowess of a sports star to go diving. Instead, focus on practicing how to get comfortable in the underwater world so you can spend time there relaxed and unhurried, and how to effectively use fins for leisurely swimming. If you're concerned about walking with a heavy tank on your back, boat diving is recommended. We even have divers over 70 years old who are enjoying themselves!
  • Individuals are more than welcome to join. Many of our guests participate alone, and our dedicated staff will provide thorough support, so you won't feel lonely. Building friendships and connections with other participants on the same course is also one of the great appeals of diving.
  • Although we do not have a daycare facility on site, we can introduce you to local daycare services. Please do not hesitate to contact us. Alternatively, parents can take turns diving in the morning and afternoon, while the other parent waits with their child at the beach or pool near our shop.

◆Introductory Dives

  • Yes, you can dive together. In this case, for safety reasons, certified divers are participating in the introductory dive. I believe certified divers will also thoroughly enjoy it. It's also possible to conduct both dives at deeper locations. Please feel free to inquire.
  • Our discovery diving takes place in shallow waters for practice, so we confidently recommend it even for first-timers. Most people who try discovery diving are beginners. We can tell you're a bit nervous at first, but with thorough practice in the shallow waters, everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.
  • Yes, this is a spot where even first-time divers doing an introductory dive from a boat, or those with a long break from diving, can fully enjoy themselves. Please note that introductory dives have a maximum depth limit of 12 meters.

◆Licensing Courses

  • A diving license certifies that you have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to dive safely. With an entry-level license, you can enjoy diving in almost any ocean worldwide.
  • This is a body that establishes the rules necessary for safe diving.
There are various certifying organizations, but the general course content is consistent.
S2CLUB issues PADI licenses, which are the most recognized worldwide and have the highest number of licenses issued.
  • You don't need to be able to swim like a competitive swimmer, but if you have a significant fear of water, the course may take longer. With diving, your breathing is secured, and you wear fins to propel yourself underwater. Even if you can't swim or tread water, you can glide gracefully while diving, so please rest assured.
  • Yes, you can dive together. In this case, for safety reasons, licensed divers participate in the introductory diving experience. I'm sure licensed divers will also thoroughly enjoy it. Both dives can also be conducted at deeper depths. Please feel free to inquire.
  • If you are in good health and at least 10 years old, you can obtain a license at any age. There is no upper age limit, so there are many senior divers.
  • The amount of time required varies depending on your pace, but it usually takes about 3 to 7 days.
Some people who want to take their time studying spend about a month on self-study at home. The more days you can dedicate to self-study, the better you can learn at your own pace, so please make your reservation as soon as your schedule is set.
  • There are two situations in which you may not be able to obtain your license during your travel itinerary: if diving itself is not possible due to poor ocean conditions caused by a typhoon, etc., or if you are unable to participate due to poor health. Please make sure you are in good physical condition. A license course involves many new things, which can be physically demanding, and lack of sleep can hinder ear equalization.
In the unlikely event that you are unable to complete the license course, we will issue a certificate of completion for the portion you have finished. You can resume the course from where you left off within one year.

◆Fun Dives

  • Normally, teams consist of 2 to 4 people, with a maximum of 6. Team composition is determined based on your skills and objectives. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences, so please don't hesitate to inform us in advance.
  • For those with a long break from diving or other concerns, we ask that you participate in the shallow-water areas. Please take your time to review so you can dive with peace of mind and fully enjoy your diving experience.
  • First, if you are concerned about seasickness, please be sure to bring motion sickness medication. If you experience severe seasickness, it is a good idea to take the medication the night before.
Also, if you let us know when you make your reservation, we will do our best to guide you to a nearby spot with a shorter cruising time. Most of the time, the break between the first and second dives will be on the boat. When the waves are high, we may take a break at the port. Please be assured that lunch will be taken on land.
  • We have a descent line available. You can use it to descend at your own pace without rushing. Also, please be sure to consult with your instructor before diving. They can give you advice, and it will help you feel more at ease.

◆ Advanced Course

  • The Advanced Course requires advance preparation, and you will need to submit reports based on the textbook. If you prepare thoroughly, you should be able to pass without any problems.
  • Yes, one license card will be issued.
  • After obtaining your Open Water, Advanced, and Rescue certifications, you can enroll in the Divemaster course. This is the first step towards becoming a professional. We can facilitate all of these courses up to this point. Please contact us for further details.
